AgriTalk: 2018 Farm Bill Is “In The End Zone”
Thursdays on AgriTalk are for the newsmakers. We’re talking with Bob Dinneen of the Renewable Fuels Association, Jim Wiesemeyer of Pro Farmer, and Paul Winters of the National Biodiesel Board.
Bob Dinneen, senior strategic advisor of the Renewable Fuels Association, has taken on a new role at the organization. He talks about the small refinery waivers and how they impacted roughly 2.75 billion gallons of ethanol. He thinks the Trump administration needs to reevaluate speaks about the lawsuit filed by the RFA. Pro Farmer Washington correspondent Jim Wiesemeyer questions Dinneen on how electric vehicles will impact biofuels and the gasoline market in the long term.
The 2018 farm bill is “in the end zone,” according to Pro Farmer policy analyst Jim Wiesemeyer. He breaks down the different components of the bill including ARC, PLC, SNAP and RMA yields. Wiesemeyer says there won’t be any adjustments on base acres “despite conjecture to the contrary,” but says they will be incentivized in some way.
The biodiesel industry has a positive story to tell by getting double use out of used cooking oil and animal fats. Paul Winters, director of public affairs and federal communications for the National Biodiesel Board, explains how NBB is pressing on Congress to renew the tax credit and extend it “for multiple years.”
