Forget Meals. People Want More Snacks.
A new, global study released on Monday indicates that more people prefer to snack their way through the day than sit down for scheduled meals.
The online study polled 6,068 adults, ages 18 and older, from 12 countries in September 2019. The research was conducted by Kraft-owned Mondelez International, a confectionery, food, and beverage holding company based in Illinois, and consumer polling specialist, The Harris Poll.
Key findings from the 2019 State of Snacking report show:
6 in 10 adults worldwide (59%) say they prefer to eat many small meals throughout the day, as opposed to a few larger ones, with younger consumers especially leaning into snacks over meals as that number rises to 7 in 10 among Millennials (70%).
For more than 8 in 10 people, convenience (87%) and quality (85%) are among the top factors impacting snack choice.
80% of consumers are looking for healthy, balanced bites.
71% of adults said snacking helps them control their hunger and manage their calories throughout the day.
The majority of people surveyed said snacks are just as important to their mental (71%) and emotional (70%) well-being as their physical well-being.
Around the world, more than 8 in 10 parents use snack time as a small way to connect with their children (82%).
