Girl Scouts and Dairy Farmers Join Together to Support Idaho Foodbank
Pairing perfectly with milk, purchasing a box of those iconic Girl Scout Cookies could do more than satisfy those pesky late-night cravings, they could also help those fighting hunger.
Teaming up with Idaho dairy families for the fourth consecutive year, the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage are working to help provide milk to the Idaho Foodbank. From Jan. 11 to March 17, customers can donate to the Cookies from the Heart program, all while enjoying their favorite Girl Scout Cookie.
For every box of cookies donated to the Cookies from the Heart program, dairy farmers from across Idaho will donate $1 towards purchasing food. A $5 purchase will provide a box of Girl Scout Cookies and help purchase milk for the foodbank, giving customers an opportunity to double the impact of their charitable contribution, according to an Associated Press article.
“Milk is one of the most requested, but least available item at foodbanks,” Cindy Miller with Dairy West said in a press release. “Dollar for dollar, it’s one of the most nutrient-packed items a family can have on the table, providing protein, calcium and eight other key nutrients.”
During the past three years of this program, the Idaho Foodbank has benefitted from 23,621 boxes of cookies and more than $33,000 worth of food.
“This generous campaign will provide milk to thousands of Idahoans who are in the most need,” Karen Vauk, president and CEO of The Idaho Foodbank, said. “It provides a nutritious staple for Idaho families who may otherwise have to go without. We are so thankful for the efforts to make this campaign happen once again.”
The Girl Scouts of Silver Sage will also participate in a Digital Cookie Program, allowing them to sell online. To donate to this program, visit the Girl Scouts of Silver Sage website.
